From the ground up

It all starts in the paddock.

Producers increasingly need more than productive pastures. They need to understand how their decisions affect farm performance and the wider farming system, and have credible evidence of the outcomes they are achieving and the value these outcomes create.

Zac Geldof and Lachie Godson in the paddock

We work with producers to understand their land, production system and goals, identify the right pasture options and provide the agronomic support to establish and manage them successfully.

From there, we help producers understand what those decisions are delivering.

Through on-farm measurement, research and Agrimix Flux®, we measure and model changes across the farming system, from pasture and livestock productivity to soil carbon and emissions.

The result is better information to support decisions on farm, and credible evidence producers can use to demonstrate their performance and impact beyond the farm gate.

As customers and supply chains increasingly seek evidence of soil carbon and environmental performance, that information can also help producers provide real data and create value in their farming businesses.

From deciding what to plant to proving the impact, Agrimix connects better pasture decisions with measurable performance and credible evidence.

Our approach

From planting to proof

01

Plan

Understand the land, production system, goals and opportunity.

02

Establish

Select the right pasture and support successful establishment.

03

Manage

Use practical agronomic expertise to improve pasture and grazing performance.

04

Measure

Capture what is happening across the farming system.

05

Model

Turn measurement and farm data into meaningful information.

06

Prove

Provide credible evidence of performance and impact, creating value on farm and through the supply chain.

Nick Kempe – Agrimix Founder

A Family Business, Chloe Kempe in the Paddock

Our Story

From one plant to a much bigger picture.

Agrimix founder Nick Kempe has always been drawn to ideas that can change how farming systems work. With a career spanning animal nutrition and grazing industries, and three generations of his family involved in improved pasture development along the Murray River, he understood early the connection between better pastures, livestock productivity and commercial opportunity.

That thinking has shaped Agrimix from the beginning: identify a practical problem for producers, find the science that can help solve it, turn it into something that works commercially, then keep asking what else can be understood and improved.

From Progardes® to Agrimix Flux®

n 2007, Nick was introduced to James Cook University researcher Chris Gardiner and his work with Desmanthus, a plant that had persisted for decades in northern Australian pasture trials. Nick saw an opportunity to take promising research beyond the trial plot and address a practical problem for northern producers: finding a persistent, high-quality pasture legume that could perform in heavy clay soils and a semi-arid tropical climate. Together, Nick and Chris took Desmanthus into commercial paddocks, ultimately developing Progardes® and commercially releasing nine cultivars through the Agrimix and JCU partnership.

But Progardes® also opened the door to much bigger questions. If changing what grew in the paddock could improve livestock productivity and resilience, what other impacts could be understood, measured and improved? Agrimix began looking beyond pasture performance to the wider farming system, bringing together research and on-farm data to explore productivity, profitability, soil carbon and livestock methane emissions.

That work ultimately led to the development of Agrimix Flux, bringing farm data, measurement and modelling together to help producers understand what is happening in their paddocks, make better decisions and build credible evidence of the outcomes they are achieving.

Importantly, that evidence can also create value beyond the farm. By bringing together data across farms and production systems, Flux can help industries and supply chains understand and demonstrate the provenance, soil carbon data tell the story of the environmental performance of the products they produce.

Today, Agrimix remains a family business, with Nick and his daughter Chloe leading the direction, together with a team of agronomists, researchers and specialists, they are building on generations of experience while continuing to evolve what Agrimix can deliver for producers and industry.

What began with one plant, built on generations of experience in pasture development, has grown into a much bigger mission: turning what happens in the paddock into better decisions, credible evidence and greater value across the agricultural supply chain.

Our People

Where paddock experience meets science and research

Agrimix brings together agronomists, researchers and agricultural specialists who understand that what works in theory still has to work in the paddock.

From pasture establishment and agronomy to research, measurement and modelling, the team's combined expertise allows Agrimix to support producers across the farming system rather than addressing one part of it in isolation.

Lachie and Chloe at a research plot

FOUNDER & DIRECTOR

Nick has built his career around asking practical questions about how farming systems can perform better, then bringing together the science, research and commercial thinking needed to answer them. From the development and commercialisation of Progardes® to Agrimix's research into livestock productivity, emissions and soil carbon, he has played a hands-on role in turning research into practical opportunities for producers. Today, Nick continues to drive Agrimix's direction, working with researchers, industry and the Agrimix team to explore what better pasture and better information can make possible.

RESEARCH PROGRAM MANAGER

As the next generation of the Kempe family, Chloe has been part of the business and its evolution from its early years. Today, she plays a key role in coordinating Agrimix's research programs and partnerships, bringing together researchers, industry and producers to move ideas from research into practical application. With a background spanning behavioural science, creative industries and business psychology, Chloe also leads Agrimix's marketing and communications, helping connect its research, commercial activities and relationships with the people and industries they serve.

TECHNICAL MANAGER & AGRONOMIST

With over 10 years’ experience in agronomy, pasture systems, agricultural consulting and soil carbon projects, Zac specialises in turning complex science into practical solutions for producers. He has dedicated his career to helping producers improve productivity, profitability and sustainability through evidence-based decision making. His expertise in soil carbon measurement, monitoring and management help farmers navigate emerging opportunities while maintaining a strong focus on practical on-farm outcomes.

PASTURE AGRONOMIST & RESEARCHER

Passionate about livestock, pastures and productive farming systems, Lachie brings a unique blend of practical agricultural experience and scientific expertise to Agrimix. From cattle stations and sheep enterprises to pasture research and on-farm trials, his career has been shaped by a desire to understand what makes paddocks perform. Specialising in pasture improvement, Lachie excels at bridging the gap between research and practice, helping farmers implement practical solutions that improve productivity and create long-term value.

MODELLER & DATA ANALYST

With expertise spanning ecosystem modelling, soil carbon, hydrology and data analytics, Zahra helps transform complex environmental data into practical insights for agriculture. Her work combines advanced modelling techniques with a systems-thinking approach, enabling us to develop scalable, evidence-based solutions that support both productivity and sustainability. Passionate about climate-smart agriculture, she specialises in connecting science, technology and farming outcomes to help producers make informed decisions with confidence.

Research & Collaboration

Building the evidence together

Agrimix has a long history of working alongside producers, universities, researchers and industry organisations to test ideas under real farming conditions and build the evidence behind them.

Those collaborations have included James Cook University, CSIRO, Queensland University of Technology, University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, Meat & Livestock Australia and Australian Wool Innovation.

The goal is turning science into practical knowledge and tools that help producers make better decisions and demonstrate the outcomes they achieve.

From New England wool country to Central and northern Queensland beef systems, Agrimix's research network spans multiple grazing environments, pasture systems and climatic zones.
