Agrimix Research

innovation & science

Agrimix invest significant resources into Research and Development, our goal is to find practical and scalable solutions and drive adoption across Northern Australia. We are continually looking to collaborate with leading research institutions. We have invested heavily in research over the last 10 years, showing a commitment to innovation, backed by science.

Current Research Projects

New pastures to increase livestock productivity in the north

Agrimix is leading a 3 year Cooperative Research Centres Project that brings together beef producers and leading research institutions to find new legume cultivars and reliable commercial-scale establishment methods that will increase livestock productivity across Northern Australia. This project also investigated the use of Desmanthus to reduce livestock emissions in cattle.

Expected outcomes of this project include

  • Practical establishment methods to reliably establish legumes in the region
  • Demonstrate increased livestock and environmental productivity gains, increasing producer profitability
  • Investigate using Desmanthus to reduce livestock emissions in cattle
  • Educate and train young ag scientists
  • Extension activities for northern beef producers

Greenhouse Gas Mitigation

Progardes improves livestock productivity and can lower methane emissions from livestock

Collaborating with CSIRO, JCU and MLA, Agrimix have investigated the potential for Progardes Desmanthus to be used as a nutritional supplementation strategy for greenhouse gas mitigation. You can read the final report from our first trials below.
