In issue 7 of The Dirt we meet new team member Zac Geldof, look at the latest update from our project “New pastures to increase livestock productivity across the north” and announce a new distributorship with Cropmark Seeds NZ.

Agrimix: Science, Integrity, Results

Recently Agrimix’s Innovation Officer, Lachlan Godson, visited Peronne Station near Hughenden to conduct a Botanal and inspect the progress of a pasture trial.

WHAT: A CRC-Project called “New pastures to increase livestock productivity across the north“. The project has been running for four years and brings together government, research organisations (JCU, CSIRO, UWA) and industry.

WHY: Agrimix is committed to research and development and growing the Northern Australia economy. We value research partnerships and contributing to the training of next generation ag leaders.
HOW: Partnering with corporate and owner-operator beef producers in Northern Australia, trials have been set up to investigate the use of Desmanthus to improve animal performance and pasture productivity, whilst also reducing methane emissions from livestock.
UPDATE: Data from the Botanal will be used to better understand the establishment of Desmanthus in northern conditions, the benefits to production and the effects of grazing and seasonal changes on pastures. This will help producers make valuable management decisions regarding stocking rates as well as pasture and land condition.
